Fia

I created this piece after reading a book that my dear friend wrote about a Selkie named Fia.  A Selkie is a seal that can shed her skin and turn into a human.  There are many legends and stories about Selkie's skins being stolen while they were in human form.  If this happens, they are bound to the person who stole their skin.  This story is about a sweet little Selkie child whose skin has been stolen.  The big agate at the bottom reminded me so much of the ocean and Fia's longing for the ocean.  I don't want to give away the story, but each part of this piece embodies pieces of the story, from the ocean piece to the Selkie skin to the rocks to the teardrops.  My favorite are the large, grey, luminescent beads that remind me so much of Selkie skin.

  1. I love, love, love the piece at the end. Where did you find it? It is so perfect. The tears and the "hard pieces" (gray chips) are so evocative. I really like how you have a tree at the other end (apple tree, maybe?). And then, of course, those big, awesome reflective beads that are like selkie skin. They are so cool. Good piece!
